The rooms
Stylish, with an antique or vintage touch, and fully equipped. Every room has a generous bathroom and its own entrance, so you come and go as you please.
On the first and second floors of two listed buildings in the centre. Spacious, quiet, with a view of the Vismarkt or the rooftops of the old town.
A detached listed cottage right on the Vismarkt, furnished with antiques. One bedroom, a living room with gas fire, your own kitchen and a terrace. Make your own breakfast, or come downstairs to Sint John.
Breakfast
Below the guesthouse is day café Sint John, a Middelburg institution since 1972. Breakfast means freshly roasted coffee, a pot of tea from thirty-odd varieties, croissants, yoghurt with home-made granola — and, if you like, a taste of the house-made frozen yoghurt. Later in the day it is the place for a toastie or a glass on the terrace under the lime trees.

Middelburg is the capital of Zeeland and a lovely town for a weekend away or a beach holiday. From the Vismarkt you walk in ten minutes to the Zeeuws Museum, the abbey and the Lange Jan tower (207 steps, views across Walcheren) and the railway station. By car you are on the beach in twenty minutes, by bike in half an hour — Zoutelande, Dishoek, Oostkapelle.

Fishwives from Arnemuiden once sold their fresh catch here, carried in two heavy baskets on a yoke. Today the square is a summer terrace under old lime and chestnut trees — and in the evening, once the tables empty, one of the quietest corners of the old town.
About us
After busy years elsewhere in hospitality we took over day café Sint John and the house above it in 2009. After nearly ten years of enjoying the view, we converted the house into four double rooms in 2017. Since then we have welcomed many guests more than once. Tips for restaurants, walks or a good bottle of wine? Just ask — we love talking about Middelburg.
